Pink Saturday Holiday Favorites

Another interesting subject from Beverly for our Pink Saturday. I have never been a person who can pick one thing and say it’s my VERY favorite. I have so many interests and likes that it’s darn near impossible to pin one thing down. For instance I’ve never been a fan of plain vanilla ice cream but load that puppy up with chocolate & caramel sauce, a few sprinkled nuts, a couple of maraschino cherries (with a splash of cherry juice
) and voila…you get the idea.

So I will offer my Holiday M
ovie Favorites. Most of these I have cherished since I was little.

Topping the list has to be White Christmas. As a child I was riveted by the COLOR of this movie. To this day, while I always laugh at (and adore) Danny Kaye, enjoy the singing of Bing Crosby & Rosemary Clooney & am astonished at (and secretly wish I were) Vera Ellen whose dancing was beyond superb… I still can’t get over the vivid color of this holiday charmer.

It’s A Wonderful Life
Is a must at Christmas. What can I say that you don’t already know. Maybe that I always have a box of tissue by my side during this one. Even if I can keep it together for the whole movie…that darn bell ringing at the end when the angel gets his wings, does me in everytime!

Miracle on 34th Street
The black & white version, with Maureen O’Hara love it (but I am a lover of old b/w movies) although the newer color version with Elizabeth Perkins was very well done. Who doesn’t love a miracle at Xmas time? I made a point to tell my girls as they were growing up, that the Xmas spirit should always be in their heart. It’s meant to be spread around more that one day a year. I appreciate how, as things progress in the movie, the female characters finally open themselves up to the joy of miracles.
More people should.

A newer favorite is one that my girls and I discovered together…The Family Stone. My youngest tells me that Diane Keatons character reminds her a lot of m
e which makes me laugh because at times her character seems a bit unhinged & definitely a user of incorrect language...minus the certain foul talk lingo I would never use - I guess I understand now...thanks Jamie!! 8 )

It’s a wacky family story that involves tolerance, patience, love & the silly things that happen to families. I miss watching this particular movie. Since the girls have moved out, I have found I don’t put it on much, it just isn’t the same without all of us sniffing on the couch together. However, it is a fabulous movie.

So there you have it in no particular order. Of course if Beverly asks this question again next year…I reserve the right to change my mind!

Merci to Beverly at How Sweet The Sound for hosting such a Grand Fête! Be sure to visit her and the other pink participants and leave comments....we love 'em!

  2. I like a girl who changes her mind! I'm the same way. Love all of those old classics too. Don't think I've seen the last one. My daughter is away at college this year. She'll be coming home, but I tell ya, it's not the same around here. Especially during this time.
Oh, and that wreath you commented on, easy peasy. I made a gold one last year. Just a wreath form, cheap ornaments and hot glue.
    Have a lovely night!

  3. I haven't seen the last one,the Family Stone, but I'll look for it. The others are old favorites. I've not bought any DVD's before but I think I'll look to see if any of the classics are on sale after the holidays. They don't really seem to be showing them at times that are convenient anymore. Hope you have a Happy Pink Saturday.

  7. I'm with you on all those films! So hard to choose a favourite. Do you remember The Red Horse? The BBC had a habit of showing the same film year after year at one point (when we still had black&white TVs) and this one was on around 6 years in a row! Still was a good film though. Now I actually WANT to see it, lol.

    Happy Pink Saturday! Woof woof
