Natural Treats for Healthy Dogs
Yes, you caught me. Healthy BBQ?! Harley loves to stop by his fav BBQ joint when he's in NYC. How can I tell him no? But, the other 365 days a year, I run a tight ship.
Organic foods (especially homegrown herbs) are the items of choice in our home. If we can get it at the local farmers market, we will.
JD & I began conscientiously eating organic or locally grown when we moved east. Funny, but if we "pig out" on processed foods (I love a good bag of sour cream & green onion chips)...we pay for it with grumbling stomachs. We felt if these foods affected us this way, it made sense that our *kids* could experience problems as well. Other than Harley's BBQ fetish, we stick to natural products for our furbabies. Here is one of our recipes:
1 cup water 1/4 cup all-natural peanut butter (no sugar or salt added) 1 egg 1 banana mashed
1) Preheat oven to 350°. In large bowl combine all ingredients. Mix well.
2) On a floured surface knead the dough until it's firm.
3) Roll the dough to a 1/4" thickness. Cut with cookie cutter (i have a french poodle cutter...it's so funny to see Gunner who is 120 lbs, eating a poodle treat). Transfer cookies to a baking sheet.
4) Bake for 45-55 minutes or until the cookies are dry & firm to the touch. Turn off the heat & let the cookies stand in the oven until hard (about 1-2 hours)
"Bone" Appetit!!
