ADOPT! Spotlight on Ogimma
Ogimma is a Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie mix. He is 7 years old and weighs approximately 34 pounds. Herding dogs can be a great joy for active families!
"I’m a naturally playful, curious and trusting canine. Take me for a big walk every day and give me something to do. After my job’s done, I’ll curl up in front of the fire with you in the evenings. I’m a dog on a mission to please".
A little more about herding dogs:
These dogs are independent thinkers and were bred to move and control herds and
work long hours. Thus, they are smart problem solvers that love to
work! Different breeds use different tactics in herding. Some nip at
the legs and heels while barking and others use strong direct eye
contact with some barking. Shetland Sheepdogs, Bearded Collies, and
Collies use their bark to herd. Although you can train a “quiet” cue, it
is not reasonable to try to eliminate barking completely.
These dogs need both mental and physical stimulation. Plan on providing
vigorous exercise every day rain or shine. These dogs excel in
agility, flyball, obedience, herding and therapy work. They NEED a job,
if you do not provide one for them they will make up their own and it
may not be to your liking.
