World Equestrian Games & Family
I am fortunate to have a very giving friend who called last Tuesday to invite me to the World Equestrian Games…her treat! Not being someone to turn down an adventure, I jumped at the chance. Little did I know that a fiberglass horse at this event would lead me to this post…
I would like to dedicate this blog post to my sister-in-law, Kristi. Although we come by the relationship in an odd way (her hubby & his sibling are actually my cousins but we were raised like brothers & sister, hence sister-in-law) we have only recently been reunited.
While the backstory is long & muddled, the recent events are eye-opening. Just this past July my “brothers” came back into my life, due to a long hiatus that some families find themselves in…namely misunderstandings & YOUTH!! Anyway, the upswing is, upon being reunited with my sibling & his wife…I learned Kristi has been cancer free for 5 years!!!
We have miles (and at the moment years between us) but in the 3 months that I have been back in touch with my family, I have kept her close to me. I see her when I see pink. I see her when I hear of a woman who has overcome a difficult challenge. I see her when I think I am having a hard day. This woman has handled life’s difficulties in a gracious and gutsy way. Without knowing it, she has passed on her strength to me.
As women, we all have things to overcome. Some things are self imposed, some are not, but our nature is to be there for our spouse & children first…I mean what would they do without us? ::giggle:: We can’t do this unless we are tough cookies.
Thank you, Kristi for reminding me to be strong & treat the little things as just that, little things. As women we need to whip out our grit for those BIG things that can get in our way…then…we just kick its’ butt.
So happy yall reconnected! Thats what is most important! Love the pink horse!! She is precious!
ReplyDeleteThat horse is just so dear....but your post was dearer....I know how thrilled you are to be reunited with loved ones. Thanks for the kind words about my boo-boos...sometimes this blogging thing can be a bit overwhelming.

Absolutely wonderful! I recently was able to visit Vic and meet Kristi and Josh. What a strong, beautiful and tender woman she is. I find myself overwhelmingly blessed to know her, be called her friend and serve the same God that brought her out of her darkest hour. Love you Kristi!
ReplyDeleteThank you for such an inspiring post. And I love the horse for Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful story and what strength Kristi must have. Keep nurturing that relationship cause you know how fast they disappear!
